A retirement reception for longtime UNLV history professor and administrator Paul Burns is scheduled for Nov. 28.
Burns, who is retiring after 32 years, began his UNLV career as a history instructor in 1963. He moved up through the professorial ranks, eventually becoming department chairman, and later held a number of administrative posts.
The reception, which is open to the public, is scheduled for 3-5 p.m. in the lobby of the Judy Bayley Theatre.
Among the administrative posts Burns has held are executive assistant to the senior vice president and provost; interim dean of the colleges of Liberal Arts, Fine and Performing Arts, and Arts and Letters; and interim director of international programs.
He also has been involved in a number of community organizations. He has served as a member of the board of directors of the Allied Arts Council of Southern Nevada, the Nevada State Board of Museums and History, the board of trustees of the Lied Discovery Children's Museum, the board of trustees of the Western States Arts Federation, and the Nevada State Council of the Arts.
