The Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors (GLVAR) donated $25,000 to the UNLV College of Business to start a new scholarship endowment. As the endowment matures, it will annually fund one undergraduate scholarship for tuition and books or one graduate student scholarship covering a portion of graduate tuition. The scholarship will be open to any student enrolled in the college, according to Kellie Rubin, chair of the college's scholarship committee.
"Funding for scholarships is an important part of our strategic plan as we continue to build a premier business school," said Richard Flaherty, dean of the College of Business. "Scholarships help us attract and retain high caliber students."
Gayle Brown Fox, president of GLVAR, said providing scholarship funding is one way to attract a stream of highly qualified employees to her profession. "We believe that by making a contribution to the college, GLVAR is playing an active role in enriching the labor force in Las Vegas," Brown Fox said.
Through its teaching, research, and service activities, the UNLV College of Business is a critical component of economic development in the region. In addition to serving more than 3,800 undergraduate students in nine majors, the college offers five graduate degrees.
