UNLV will host a public workshop 4-6 p.m. Monday, July 2, in the Richard Tam Alumni Center regarding the proposed name change of Swenson Street to University Center Drive from East Hacienda Avenue to Desert Inn Road. The renaming is intended to more directly align UNLV and the community, and create more awareness as a prominent research university with the more than 40 million visitors who travel to Las Vegas annually.
Based on research initiated and conducted by students in the Lee Business School two years ago, UNLV has worked with local agencies to develop a thorough plan including outreach to community groups, businesses, and residents along the corridor.
The university filed a formal application with Clark County at the end of May and outlined the initiative at a Paradise Town Board meeting held in June. Final discussions and potential approval are pending with the physical name change taking place in 2019.
The public is invited to attend the July 2 workshop. Representatives from UNLV Marketing, Planning & Construction, and the Lee Business School will be in attendance to provide more information. Questions can also be directed to (702) 895-3102.
