A UNLV production of "The Vagina Monologues," scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 29 in the Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall, will benefit the Rape Crisis Center of Southern Nevada and other women's organizations dedicated to stopping violence against women.

The play is a compilation of monologues about women around the world based on interviews conducted by playwright Eve Ensler. Previous UNLV performances of the play in smaller venues have sold out. More than 40 women will perform in this year's show, which features Ensler's play, enhanced by music and dance interludes.

Tickets are on sale now at the UNLV Performing Arts Center Box Office and can also be purchased over the phone at 895-ARTS. Ticket prices are $10 for the general public and $5 for UNLV students and faculty. More information is available online at http://wavunlv.tripod.com or www.vday.org.

The play is being produced by Women Against Violence, a UNLV student organization dedicated to ending violence against women through activism and education. The production is being cosponsored by the UNLV women's studies department, the Ethnic Student Council, Multicultural Student Affairs, CSUN student government, and the Leadership Advisory Board.

The production is part of the V-Day College Campaign, which invites members of college and university campuses around the world to present benefit productions of "The Vagina Monologues" on or near Valentine's Day to raise money for organizations working to end violence against women.

Last year, the UNLV production raised $10,000; it raised $5,000 in 2002. This year the event's organizers hope to raise $15,000. Ninety percent of the production's ticket sales will go to the local Rape Crisis Center, and 10 percent will be sent to the V-Day mission in Juarez, Mexico.

Audience members should be aware that adult language will be used in the production.
