What Prevent Child Abuse Nevada (PCA-NV), an initiative of the Nevada Institute for Children’s Research and Policy at UNLV (NICRP), will host a community resource fair to address issues facing the quality of life and care for Nevada children. The month of April marks National Child Abuse Prevention Month.  When Saturday, April 20, 2013 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. - “Pinwheels for Prevention” event 10: 30 to 11 a.m. - News conference with guest speakers below Speakers include: Amanda Haboush, of NICRP and Prevent Child Abuse Nevada Cynthia Sauchak, from Metro Police's Abuse Neglect Team Sonya Joya, from Gov. Brian Sandoval's office Britt Chapman, from Sen. Dean Heller's office Aga Pinkerton, from Sen. Harry Reid's office Where Tivoli Village 440 S. Rampart Blvd. off of Alta Drive Details PCA-NV and community partners will place pinwheels around Tivoli Village to create awareness that child abuse and neglect are serious problems. The pinwheels also represent every child’s right to a healthy, happy and full life. Statewide there were more than 3,500 cases of child abuse and neglect reported in 2012, according to the Nevada Division of Child and Family Services. Children’s advocates across Nevada are calling on federal, state, and local policy makers to offer support for programs that ensure the well being of Nevada’s children. PCA-NV has recently become the state’s fully chartered chapter of the national organization Prevent Child Abuse America. The organization advocates for access to early care and learning and after-school programs, adequate health care, and prevention programs to address poverty, child abuse and neglect. PCA-NV encourages residents, the community, and government to invest in kids. ###
