Earnest Phillips II recently was promoted to director of marketing and public relations at UNLV.
Phillips, who has been at UNLV since 1999, previously served as a strategic communications specialist. In that role he worked on a variety of projects, including the successful "Be A Rebel" ad campaign. He also is involved in public opinion polling and a variety of public relations functions, including employee relations, public relations, and marketing.
He came to UNLV from Weyerhaeuser Company in Seattle where he handled media, employee, and community relations; served as editor of the company newsletter; and developed and managed the Intranet and Internet websites.
He is accredited in public relations by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and is a member of the board of directors of the Las Vegas Valley Chapter of the PRSA.
Phillips graduated from Brigham Young University in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in communications arts. He is a 1987 graduate of Rancho High School in North Las Vegas.
