Walter "Pete" Glass II, program coordinator for Greek life at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), has been named the recipient of the 2000 Fraternity System Advisor of the Year Award by the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.
The prestigious award is not presented every year; it is given by the organization only when an outstanding candidate is identified and nominated by its undergraduate fraternity chapters from across the country.
Chris Augustin, of the UNLV Lambda Chi Alpha chapter, said Glass was nominated for his hard work and committed efforts to improve the Greek system.
Glass' accomplishments have included increasing the number of Greek chapters from 16 to 24, introducing four new all-Greek organizations, encouraging Greek members to improve their grade point averages, and helping six Greek students gain positions that enabled them to travel with members from their respective fraternal headquarters to attend national organization conferences.
In addition, Glass has also been nominated as Outstanding Greek Advisor for the Western Regional Greek Conference; has been selected to serve as a facilitator for the Alpha Xi Delta Leadership Conference and the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Leadership School; and has helped UNLV's Greek Councils receive the Western Regional Greek Conference Interfraternalism Award for their collaborative efforts.
Glass is the son of Pete and Sheila Glass of Cumberland, Md. He received his associate's degree at Allegany Community College, his bachelor's degree at Salisbury State University -- where he became a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity -- and his master's degree at the University of Connecticut, Storrs. He has been employed with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, since August 1996.
