UNLV and the Southern Nevada chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS) will host a seminar featuring Helen Free, former ACS president, at 6 p.m. Feb 12. The seminar, entitled "Wellness: It's Your Responsibility," will be held in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History on the UNLV campus. The seminar is free and open to the public.
During her presentation, Free will explore the importance of developing individual wellness goals and the positive consequences of attaining them. She will also discuss how some of the tests that clinical chemists use to determine the presence or absence of specific diseases can also be used to determine wellness levels.
Free has written extensively on wellness topics and has held many elected positions in scientific societies, including president of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry and president of the American Chemical Society.
A reception with light refreshments will begin at 5:30 p.m. For more information, contact Byron Bennett, assistant professor of chemistry, at 895-3743.
