The Performing Arts Center at UNLV presents The Boys Choir of Harlem at 8 p.m. Dec. 5 as part of the Best of the New York Stage series. The choir is well known for the breadth of its repertoire, ranging from staples of the European canon through gospel, jazz, and pop; choir members are internationally recognized for virtuoso performances, choreographed innovations, and magnetic stage presence.
Founded in 1968, The Boys Choir of Harlem provides hundreds of inner-city children a welcome opportunity to realize their creative potential now and throughout their lives. Ninety-eight percent of choristers complete high school and go on to college.
Uniquely, the touring ensemble of 35 features older tenor and bass voices, as well as treble voices. This permits choristers to participate through secondary school and is the basis of the choir's vocal power and musical versatility.
Tickets to The Boys Choir of Harlem are $20, $30, and $45 and can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center Box Office at 895-ARTS (2787) or by visiting UNLVTickets.com. Student rush tickets are $10 each and available one hour prior to each event, based on availability and with valid student I.D. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Information about all of the season's performances can be found on the Performing Arts Center website.
The Performing Arts Center next welcomes Maureen McGovern, featuring the music of Richard Rodgers and special holiday favorites, on December 20. Patrons who purchase tickets to both The Boys Choir of Harlem and Maureen McGovern will receive a 15 percent discount off their order when tickets are purchased at the same time.
Founded in 1976, the Performing Arts Center at UNLV continues to be Southern Nevada's premier performing arts venue. Located on the north end of the UNLV campus, and served by a recently built parking garage, the PAC hosts a variety of performances each year in three very distinct series - the Charles Vanda Master Series, Best of the New York Stage, and The World Stage. UNLV and KLVX Channel 10 are graciously sponsoring the 2003-2004 Season, "A Season of Colors."
