Roger M. Peltyn, president of the Las Vegas-based national engineering consulting firm of Martin & Peltyn Inc., has accepted an appointment as chair of the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering Advisory Council, dean William R. Wells announced today (June 30).
The newly expanded advisory council includes 18 Southern Nevada business and community leaders who meet periodically with college administrators to offer advice and counsel to the dean and faculty of the Engineering College regarding curriculum, research and other programs at the college.
"We are most pleased that Roger Peltyn has accepted this important leadership position and are greatly encouraged with his vision and ideas for future partnerships between the College of Engineering and businesses in the region," Wells said.
According to Peltyn, many Nevada engineering and construction firms are forced to recruit outside Nevada for engineering graduates because there are not sufficient numbers of UNLV graduates to fill the jobs.
"UNLV has a top-flight engineering curriculum taught by outstanding faculty," Peltyn said. "We are excited to work closely with Dr. Wells and the college to help get the word out to the community and potential students that engineering is a terrific career choice and the UNLV College of Engineering is one of the best places to go to prepare for that career."
