The 14th Outstanding Students Awards Banquet hosted by the UNLV Alliance of Professionals of African Heritage is set for May 9, 4 p.m., in the Moyer Student Union Ballroom at UNLV. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $10.
Dr. Rainier H. Spencer, assistant professor of anthropology at UNLV will be the keynote speaker. Dr. Barbara Wallace, assistant professor of history, UNLV will serve as master of ceremonies.
During the banquet, outstanding undergraduate students of African heritage who have grade point averages of 3.0 or better and graduates students with GPAs of 3.5 or better will be recognized.
As part of the event, scholarships will be awarded to exceptional students including the following:
-- The Roosevelt Fitzgerald Outstanding Student Award, based on academic achievement.
-- The Thomas Wilson Community Citizenship Award, based on outstanding community service.
