The 17th Annual Outstanding Student Awards Banquet, hosted by the UNLV Alliance of Professionals of African Heritage, is scheduled for Sunday (May 5).
The event, which is open to the public, will take place at 4 p.m. in the ballroom of UNLV's Moyer Student Union. Tickets are $15 per person. Anthony Gladney, vice president of national diversity relations at the MGM Mirage, will be the keynote speaker.
During the banquet, outstanding students of African heritage will be recognized. Those students include undergraduates who have grade point averages of 3.0 or better and graduate students who have grade point averages of 3.5 or better.
As part of the event, scholarships will be awarded to exceptional students. Those are the Thomas Wilson Community Service Award, which is based on outstanding community service, and the Roosevelt Fitzgerald Outstanding Student Award, which is based on academic achievements.
