The UNLV Office of Information Technology recently discovered what may have been unauthorized activity on a university desktop computer dating to 2008. The computer included names and social security numbers of approximately 2,000 current and former employees who had computer loans and other transactions with the UNLV Controller's Office.
The activity was identified during routine computer maintenance and a UNLV information security team has investigated the circumstances underlying this event. Though unauthorized access has not been confirmed, the Office of Information Technology continuously works to ensure sensitive data are protected and has taken steps to notify those potentially affected.
If you feel you may have been affected and have not yet been notified, please contact the UNLV Controller's Office at (702) 895-3517 or data.integrity@unlv.edu.
