Richard C. Lee has been appointed vice provost for Educational Outreach at UNLV.
Lee, who holds a Ph.D. in special education and clinical child psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has held several academic posts in his 25-year career in higher education. Most recently, he served in the Jones Distinguished University Professorship, an endowed chair in the Teachers College at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. He assumed the UNLV post July 1.
Lee spent several years in Wisconsin as a dean of graduate studies, continuing education, and summer session, and he also served as chair of a statewide committee composed of the deans and directors of continuing education from the 26 University of Wisconsin System schools. He is the author of several books, book chapters, articles, and federal grants and contracts; he is currently writing a book on the engaged university - an examination of how university faculty, staff, and students can effectively collaborate with communities, agencies, organizations, business, and government to promote economic development, to address critical societal issues, and to share the university's intellectual and cultural assets.
The mission of UNLV's Division of Educational Outreach is to work with deans and faculty across campus to shape university outreach to government and private industry, as well as to supporters within the community by offering high-quality credit and non-credit program offerings and expertise. The unit specializes in meeting the life-long learning needs of citizens in the state, the region, the nation and, increasingly, the world.
