Donald Snyder, executive vice president and chief administrative officer of the Boyd Gaming Corp., is the new chairman of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Foundation Board of Trustees. Snyder's selection, along with the selection of Berlyn Miller as vice chairman and Mike Maffie as treasurer and the nomination of five new trustees, was approved by the Foundation Board of Trustees at its spring meeting.
Snyder, former president and CEO of the Fremont Street Experience, succeeded Thomas Hartley, president of Colbert Golf, who had served as Foundation chairman since 1994. Snyder has served as vice chairman since March 1995 and has been a member of the Foundation Board of Trustees since 1988.
The new trustee nominees are Robert V. Jones, J. Terrence Lanni, Steven Molasky, William E. Snyder, and George C. Wallace. The nominations will be presented to the University and Community College System of Nevada's Board of Regents for approval during an upcoming meeting.
The UNLV Foundation is a private, non-profit organization that was incorporated in 1981 to encourage private and business donations to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The UCCSN Board of Regents are members of the Foundation and appoint volunteer trustees who oversee its operations. There are currently 54 trustees.
Donald Snyder has been extremely active as Foundation vice chairman and chairman of the Foundation's finance and investment committee. His extensive business and financial management experience was acquired during four years with the Fremont Street Experience and 22 years with First Interstate Bank of Nevada, where he served as chairman and CEO from 1987 until 1991. He has served as chairman of the board of Nathan Adelson Hospice, as past chairman of United Way of Southern Nevada, and as a member of the Nevada Development Authority.
Berlyn Miller, president of Acme Electric, has been a UNLV Foundation trustee since 1985. His other civic and charitable affiliations include the Nevada Development Authority, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Clark County Planning Commission, and the Greater Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce.
Michael Maffie, president and CEO of Southwest Gas Corp., joined the Foundation Board of Trustees in 1986. He also has been actively involved with United Way of Nevada, Nevada School of the Arts, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Las Vegas.
Robert V. Jones is the chairman and CEO of Oasis Residential, Inc. and president of the Robert V. Jones Corp., one of the leading home builders in Las Vegas. Jones has been a leader in the Las Vegas real estate and development industry since 1976. He is also deeply committed to community involvement and supports Nevada Special Olympics, The Pediatric AIDS Foundation, United Way, The American Bone Marrow Registry, and Assistance of Southern Nevada.
Terrence Lanni is chairman and CEO of MGM, Inc. He was formerly a senior executive of Caesars World, Inc. where he served as president and chief operating officer from 1981 to 1995. He is a member of the board of directors of Santa Anita Consolidated, chairman of the board of trustees of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, and a member of the board of visitors of the University of Southern California, School of Business Administration.
Steven Molasky is president of Pacific Properties and Development Corp. His business and civic affiliations include the Greater Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, Nevada Development Authority, Southern Nevada Homebuilders Association, Commission on Nuclear Projects for the State of Nevada, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Nevada Institute for Contemporary Art, and the McCarran International Airport Arts Advisory Board.
William E. Snyder is a registered architect and has been a principal of Tate & Snyder Architects since 1982. He has been a member of the board of trustees of the Community College of Southern Nevada Foundation since 1991 and has been an active committee member of the UNLV Foundation since 1988. His other areas of community involvement are membership on the Henderson Blue Ribbon Commission on Educational Excellence and Youth Opportunity, the Nevada Urban Court Workload Assessment Commission, and the Nevada Development Authority.
George C. "Scott" Wallace, CEO of G.C. Wallace, Inc., is a registered professional engineer, registered structural engineer, professional land surveyor, and water-rights surveyor. His business and community affairs activities include involvement in the Greater Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, Nevada Development Authority, National Association of Industrial and Office Parks, Southern Nevada Homebuilders Association, the National Kidney Foundation, Las Vegas Arts Commission, Rotary Club of Las Vegas, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Las Vegas.
