The Women's Research Institute of Nevada is now accepting applications for its summer 2003 NEW Leadership Nevada program, to be held June 19-24 at UNLV.
NEW Leadership Nevada is a statewide non-partisan program that works to empower college women to take on public leadership roles. The six-day program is open to all undergraduate women who attend colleges and universities in Nevada, as well as Nevada residents attending colleges outside the state.
During the program, students will learn about leadership and civic engagement from prominent women in politics and policymaking, as well as from educators in a variety of fields. The keynote speakers for the program include U.S. Rep. Shelley Berkley and former chair of the state Republican Party Marilyn Gubler. Thirty women from various professions across the state will also participate as workshop leaders, panelists, and speakers.
Individuals interested in applying can download an application. Applicants need not be political science majors or be involved in formal political roles, such as student governing associations, in order to be considered. Students with all interests and majors may attend the institute. The application deadline is April 30.
