Dr. Gene Hall, an internationally recognized scholar, has been appointed dean of UNLV's College of Education, effective Aug. 1, according to President Carol C. Harter.
A professor of educational leadership and policy studies since 1988 at the University of Northern Colorado, Hall served as dean of that institution's College of Education from 1988 to 1993. Prior to that he served as director of the Research and Development Center for Teacher Education and as a professor in the department of curriculum and instruction at the University of Texas at Austin.
"Dr. Hall's remarkable experience as a researcher and administrator will be a great benefit to our College of Education, which faces the challenge of preparing teachers to meet the huge demand of the Clark County School District," Harter said.
Hall is an active, extensively published researcher, leading such local and national projects as Partnerships for Excellence in Teacher Education, based at the American Association of Teacher Education in Washington, D.C.; a study of teacher education throughout the State University of New York system; studies involving research verification of established standards for teaching mathematics; two post-implementation studies of a teacher performance pay plan; and studies and training related to the change process in rural, suburban, and urban school districts.
"Dr. Hall is internationally known in the field of educational research," UNLV Provost Douglas Ferraro said. "He is at the leading edge of his field and will be a great addition to the academic leadership at UNLV."
Hall received the master of science in general science in 1965 and the Ph.D. in science education in 1968 from Syracuse University.
The College of Education's 71 faculty members teach 1,935 undergraduate majors and 959 graduate majors.
