Scholars and politicians from the Russian Federation, Europe, and the United States are expected to participate in the second Nevada Conference on Russian Culture, which will take place Nov. 24-26 in Las Vegas.
The conference, which will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 4255 Paradise Road, is free. An optional $95 fee covers a luncheon, a dinner reception, and a day trip. To register for the conference, call 369-4400.
Among the topics to be discussed at the conference are "Eastern Christianity and the Origins of Russian Artistic Culture," "Russian Spirituality and the Theology of Negation," "Russian Visual Art in Contemporary and Historical Perspective," and "The Survival of Art and the Art of Survival in Stalin's Russia."
Other topics include "Soviet Dissident Classics in Contemporary Perspective," "The Art of Dissent: Parody, Travesty and Irony in Late Soviet Culture," "Post-Soviet Musical Culture," and "Identity Politics in Contemporary Russian Art."
