Registration for the National Youth Sports Program will begin June 6.
The program offers a variety of summer activities to disadvantaged youngsters whose parents or guardians meet income guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
In addition to sports such as basketball, golf, racquetball, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, and volleyball, the program includes activities designed to promote interest in careers, health education, and conflict resolution while discouraging drug and alcohol use.
This free program, which will be offered June 8 through July 10, is federally funded. It includes free lunches and free transportation to the university each day.
Free medical examinations and registration will take place at the Community Health Center of Southern Nevada, 916 W. Owens Ave. Registration and medical examinations will take place on June 6 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. A parent or guardian must accompany each enrollee.
