Shashi Nambisan, a professor of civil and environmental engineering, has been namec September recipient of the Alumni Faculty Award for Excellence in Academics and Student Focus.
A member of the UNLV faculty since 1989, Nambisan has served as the director of UNLV's Transportation Research Center since August 1998.
Formerly a research assistant at the Institute of Transportation Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, Nambisan has authored or co-authored more than 40 scholarly articles and presented or co-presented more than 100 papers.
Nambisan holds leadership positions with the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Society for Engineering Education, the Institute for Transportation Engineers, and the Transportation Research Board.
He received his doctorate in civil engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, his master's degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and his bachelor's degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
Nambisan was honored at the alumni leadership luncheon Nov. 4 along with five other recipients of this year's Alumni Faculty Award.
