A memorial service for the late Richard Tam, a pioneering Las Vegas real estate developer and long-time UNLV benefactor, is set for Sept. 18, 10 a.m., in the Richard Tam Alumni Center on the UNLV campus. He died July 5 following surgery at a local hospital. He was 83.
Mr. Tam, who built shopping centers and homes in Las Vegas and developed large areas of land in North Las Vegas, was a staunch supporter of UNLV's Rebel athletics, academics, and the university's Alumni Association. The university awarded him the honorary doctor of laws degree in 1995, he received the prestigious Silver State Award given to non-alumni by the Alumni Association in 1987, and the alumni center was named in his honor.
Friends and family are urged to attend the memorial service. Mr. Tam's family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, those who wish to may make donations to the UNLV Alumni Association or Sunrise Hospital.
