WHO: UNLV President David B. Ashley, MGM MIRAGE Vice President of Corporate Diversity and Community Affairs Debra Nelson, and representatives from the College of Southern Nevada and Nevada State College will mark the start of the Nevada System of Higher Education's celebration of Black History Month.

WHEN: Thursday, Jan. 31, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Near the Student Union off Harmon Ave. and Maryland Pkwy.

DETAILS: The Nevada System of Higher Education's institutions have come together to offer a monthlong series of events to commemorate Black History Month. The opening ceremony will feature remarks from higher education and diversity leaders and musical performances. The event is free and open to the public.
