Psychology professor Marta Meana was appointed interim dean of the Honors College, effective July 1, 2012. This decision was made after consultation with the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate, the staff of the Honors College, and the Academic Council & Cabinet.

Meana joined the psychology department at UNLV in 1997 after completing a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at McGill University and a post-doctoral research fellowship in women's health at the University of Toronto. A renowned researcher in women's health and human sexuality, Meana has published two books and 70 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. With over 100 presentations at national and international conferences (many co-authored with students), Meana is also an advisor to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th edition); associate editor of the Archives of Sexual Behavior; president of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research; and editor of Springer's Focus on Sexuality Research book series.

She has been the recipient of UNLV's Barrick Scholar Award and the College of Liberal Arts William Morris Award for Excellence in Scholarship. Also an accomplished mentor and teacher, Meana has been the recipient of the UNLV Graduate Academic Advisor Award, William Morris Award for Excellence in Teaching, UNLV Foundation Distinguished Teaching Award, and the statewide Nevada Regents Teaching Award.
