UNLV English professor Joseph B. McCullough will present a reading and discussion on previously unpublished and newly edited works by Mark Twain on March 27 at UNLV.
Part of the University Forum lecture series, McCullough's presentation is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History. It is free and open to the public.
McCullough, who chairs UNLV's English department, will read excerpts from "The Bible According to Mark Twain: Writings on Heaven, Eden, and the Flood," a book McCullough co-edited.
Among the many stories are Adam and Eve's divergent accounts of their domestic troubles; Shem's hand-wringing account of how material shortages and labor troubles were hampering Noah's progress in building the ark; Captain Stormfield's revelations of what heaven is really like; and Satan's musings on our puerile concepts of the afterlife. Also to be included is Twain's last known piece of writing in which he gives advice on how to dress and tip properly in heaven.
The University Forum lecture series is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts. McCullough's presentation is being co-sponsored by the UNLV Foundation.
