The Nevada Conservatory Theatre at UNLV opens William Shakespeare's "Macbeth" at 8 p.m. on Friday, November 7 in the Judy Bayley Theatre on the UNLV campus.
The story of "Macbeth" begins with Macbeth and Banquo, victorious generals in the army of Duncan, King of Scotland, who encounter three witches on their journey home from battle. Macbeth's ambitions are kindled by the witches' prediction that he will someday be king. In an effort to hasten the prophecy, he and Lady Macbeth plot the murders of those in the way.
Directed by post-modernist-inspired director Michael Lugering, the cast features Kris Pruett as Macbeth, with Michaela Goodman as Lady Macbeth. Others in the cast include Tyler Sigman, Tywayne Wheatt, Devaune Ratteray, Ben Campbell, Matthew Tennie, Sean Boyd, Michael Martin, Rob Howard, Joseph Wheeler, Federico Flores, Annikki Larsson, Paul Finocchiaro, Julie Anne Heaton, and Darcy Wright. The witches are Gloria Hoffman, Melony Erin, Melony Ash, Meredith Stringfellow, Kacy Bult, and Loren Bohannon.
Guest scenic artist Xu Zheng has designed a revolving sculptural set, and costumer Kelly James has incorporated Scottish kilts into her design. Lighting design is by Jessica Betts. Drew Fracher, a Fight Master in the Society of American Fight Directors, has staged the sword and shield fights.
Performances are November 7, 8, 13, 14 and 15 at 8 p.m. with matinees at 2 p.m. on November 9 and 16 in the Judy Bayley Theatre. Tickets are $15 and on sale at the Performing Arts Center Box Office located in the southeast corner of the parking garage. The Box Office is opened Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and may be reached by calling 895-ARTS (2787).
