"Why Can't I See the Mountains? Haze Over Las Vegas" is the topic of the March 20 University Forum lecture.
Professor Mark Green and graduate research assistant Arsineh Hecobian, both of the Desert Research Institute, will reveal the findings of their year-long investigation into the causes of haze and air pollution in the Las Vegas Valley. They will also discuss the issues related to controlling pollution.
On April 4, Charles Lindholm, an anthropology professor at Boston University, will present "Afghanistan, Islam, and The Problem of Terrorism." Terrorism is one method historically used by Islamic fundamentalists groups to resist secular governance, according to Lindholm. He will discuss the dynamics of terrorism in Afghanistan.
Both lectures begin at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History. All University Forum lectures are free and open to the public.
The University Forum lecture series is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and is underwritten by the Lodge Kalafatis Trust and the UNLV Foundation. Lindholm's lecture is also cosponsored by UNLV's anthropology department.
