UNLV recently hosted a delegation from the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China to thank them for their donation of educational resources to the Lied Library. The donation, which is valued at more than $35,000, includes 855 Chinese language textbooks, 123 audiotapes, and 14 CD s.
"This generous donation from the People's Republic of China is extremely important and timely as the UNLV libraries work to build collections that support the university's Asian studies program," said UNLV's Dean of Libraries Kenneth Marks. "These materials will serve students, faculty, and community members for many years to come."
Wang Yunxiang, Wang Qiyao, and Shen Yang, of the Chinese consulate general office in San Francisco, attended the May 15 event and pledged their ongoing commitment to developing educational collaboration and exchange between UNLV and universities in China. Yang said the donation was made in appreciation of UNLV's efforts in teaching Chinese and for its Asian studies program.
