UNLV's Lied Library has won an award for its design from an international planning organization.
The honor, a merit award for design, was presented by the Council of Educational Facilities Planners International at its recent Southwest Regional Conference in Albuquerque, N.M.
The 302,000-square-foot, five-story Lied Library, which is situated at the center of the UNLV campus, opened in January 2001. The library was designed by Welles/Pugsley Architects of Las Vegas and Leo A Daly Architects of Omaha, Neb., and built by Tibesar Construction Co.
More than 1.1 million people visited the library during its first year of operation.
