UNLV Provost Douglas P. Ferraro has announced the reassignment of Library Dean Matthew J. Simon to a tenured faculty position in the James R. Dickinson Library, effective immediately. The recommendation was made to President Carol C. Harter, who fully supported the provost's actions.
"For the present, Associate Dean of Libraries Myoung-ja Lee Kwon will assume administrative duties in the library until an interim dean is determined following consultation with the library faculty and staff," Ferraro stated. It is anticipated that a national search for a dean of libraries will commence immediately for an appointment to be effective July 1, 1997.
President Harter added that the administrative reassignment will not affect the university's plans for a new 300,000-square-foot library being requested of the 1997 Nevada Legislature.
"We have every confidence that our already considerable progress in designing the new Lied Library will continue to move forward unimpeded. The successful completion of this new facility will be a substantive as well as symbolic addition to this campus, but it will also be a major resource for the citizens of this community," Harter said.
