George Ritzer, distinguished sociology professor from the University of Maryland and author of the best seller "The McDonaldization of Society," will visit the UNLV campus March 19 to present a lecture "Globalization Theory: Lessons from the Exploration of McDonaldization and the New Means of Consumption."
Ritzer, former chair of the theory section of the American Sociological Association, will explain his theory of how the fast-food industry and its principles of business have influenced postmodern society by creating in people a mindset of "I want it fast, I want it now, and I want what's next."
The lecture, which is free and open to the public, is set for noon in the Classroom Building Complex, Room B-225. The lecture is sponsored by the department of sociology.
For more information on the lecture, call UNLV sociology professor Dmitri Shalin at 895-0259.
