"September 11, 2001: The End of the Vietnam Syndrome?" is the topic of the Feb. 21 University Forum lecture.
George C. Herring, alumni professor of history at the University of Kentucky, will explore the effects of the Vietnam War on the United States' military and foreign policy. Since the war, U.S. leaders have been perceived to be reluctant to intervene in military actions abroad and wary of civilian interference in and media access to military operations. Herring will examine how the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks are changing these perceptions.
The presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Barrick Museum Auditorium at UNLV. It is free and open to the public.
The University Forum lecture series is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and is underwritten by The Jerry Kalafatis Lodge Charitable Foundation and the UNLV Foundation. Herring's lecture is cosponsored by UNLV's departments of history and political science.
