Upcoming University Forum lectures at UNLV will feature a presentation on jazz drumming styles and a poetry reading.
On Oct. 22, world-renowned jazz drummer Joe LaBarbera will present "Drummers and Their Styles in Jazz History." During this lecture/recital, LaBarbera will discuss and demonstrate the playing styles of many great jazz drummers as he performs with UNLV jazz faculty members David Loeb and Tom Warrington.
The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Doc Rando Recital Hall of the Beam Music Center, located on the UNLV campus.
On Oct. 23, poet Marvin Bell will present "Dead Man Poems: A Live Reading." A longtime faculty member of the prestigious University of Iowa's Writer's Workshop, Bell is the author of 17 books of poetry and essays and was named in 2000 as Iowa's first poet laureate.
The lecture will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History.
