UNLV's department of campus recreational services will host the 1998 International Shootout National Championship, a basketball shooting competition that is expected to draw 100 shooters of all ages from around the country, on May 30 and 31, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. both days. The event will be held in the north and south gyms of UNLV's Paul C. McDermott Physical Education Complex.
Although the competition is restricted to those shooters who have qualified at earlier events, the entire event will be free and open to the public, including clinics by three well-known basketball shooters.
The top basketball free throw, three point, and HORSE shooters from around the United States will compete for the national championship in each category.
The categories include males and females in age divisions from 11 and under to 50 and over, family, corporate, and co-ed, in ambulatory and wheelchair categories.
Shooting clinics beginning at 4 p.m. each day will be run by Don Nelson, general manager and head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, and Tara Vanderveer, women's head basketball coach at Stanford University, along with members of the International Shootout Advisory Panel of Shooting Instructors.
