Senior adults interested in learning more about the senior adult theatre program at UNLV are invited to attend an informational party on campus July 24.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is set for 11 a.m. in the Holbert H. Hendrix Education Auditorium. Because of space limitations, reservations are required. Reservations may be made by calling 895-1079.
Founded in 1990, the program offers older students a variety of classes from acting and creative dramatics to directing and playwriting, as well as a first-in-the nation bachelor of arts degree in senior adult theatre.
Classes for the fall semester begin in late August. Seniors age 62 and older who meet residency requirements may earn up to six free credits per semester on a space-available basis.
"Whatever your interest - ushering, building scenery, auditioning for plays - there are many opportunities available for older students," said Ann McDonough, director of the program.
At the informational party, senior adults also will have an opportunity to learn about UNLV's continuing education opportunities, such as the gerontology certificate program and the EXCELL program, which focuses on continued learning in retirement by providing seminars for seniors on a variety of topics.
For additional information about the July 24 meeting or about any of the programs, contact McDonough at 895-1517.
