UNLV social work professor William Epstein will discuss "The Illusion of Psychotherapy" on Oct. 27 on the university campus.

Part of the University Forum lecture series, Epstein's presentation is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Frank and Estella Beam Hall, Room 241. It is open to the public free of charge.

Epstein says that the effectiveness of psychotherapy has been grossly exaggerated and is, at best, indeterminate.

It is reasonable to surmise that psychotherapy is ineffective and perhaps even routinely harmful, according to Epstein. He says that the fable of cure surrounding psychotherapy denies true remedies to the huge number of Americans in need of greater social services, education, jobs, and welfare.
