The conference will feature workshops and panel presentations on various issues of aging, such as "Nutrition in Aging," "Exercise and the Older Adult," "Senior Adult Theatre," and "Psychological Issues in Later Life."
In addition, a variety of academic departments that offer programs related to aging and gerontology will be available to provide participants with information. Those departments will include anthropology, biology, sociology, kinesiology, counseling, social work, nursing, psychology, health care administration, leisure studies, marketing, and theatre.
"This conference will provide useful information about healthy aging, and also will be an excellent opportunity for people who are interested in learning more about the rapidly expanding field of gerontology," said Ann McDonough, director of the gerontology certificate program offered by UNLV's College of Extended Studies.
The conference, which is free and open to the public, will take place from noon to 4:30 p.m. in the Flora Dungan Humanities Building, Room 109. Because space is limited, reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
The mini-conference is being sponsored by the gerontology certificate program, the theatre department's senior adult theatre program, and the Nevada Geriatric Education Center, which is a joint program between the University of Nevada School of Medicine and the Sanford Center on Aging.
