"Genome Sequencing: The Scientific, Medical, and Social Impacts" is the topic of a Sept. 3 lecture at UNLV, the first of the fall 2002 University Forum lecture series.
Jeffrey Shen, assistant professor of biology at UNLV, will detail the technology used in human genome sequencing and will discuss the impact of current genome research on the fields of medicine and agriculture. Shen will also explore the social impact of this increasingly controversial subject.
The lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History. All University Forum lectures are free and open to the public.
The University Forum lecture series is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and is underwritten by The Jerry Kalafatis Lodge Charitable Foundation and the UNLV Foundation. For more information on the series, call 895-3401 or send an e-mail to: forum@nevada.edu.
