People holding tickets for the Barrick Lecture Series informal debate between liberal economist John Kenneth Galbraith and conservative writer and television host William F. Buckley Jr. should mark their calendars for April 18.
That's the new date for the debate that originally was scheduled for Jan. 9, but was postponed when a blizzard on the East Coast prevented both Galbraith and Buckley from flying to Las Vegas.
The informal debate, titled "Current Events: Perspectives on the World Around," will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall.
The tickets showing the January date will be used for admission to the April 18 event.
All tickets for the event were distributed prior to the Jan. 9 date. No additional tickets will be distributed.
"We realize that some people who picked up tickets for the debate back in January may not be able to attend on April 18," said Rick Romito, director of UNLV's Performing Arts Center. "We encourage those people to give their tickets to friends or coworkers so that they do not go unused."
This will be Galbraith and Buckley's second debate at UNLV. They first debated here on Jan. 10, 1983, during the second year of the Barrick Lecture Series. Their return this year is part of the celebration of the series' 15th anniversary.
The Barrick Lecture Series, funded through a grant from philanthropist Marjorie Barrick, presents nationally and internationally known speakers from a variety of fields each semester at UNLV. The presentations are always free and open to the public.
