"A Focus on Fine Arts -- Connections to the Future" will be the topic when community and university leaders gather at UNLV on Nov. 3 for the third "Interchanges" forum.
The public is invited to attend the free event, which is scheduled for 3-6 p.m. in the library of the Paul B. Sogg Architecture Building.
The "Interchanges" forums were established last year to highlight topics of importance to the Las Vegas Valley that are currently being addressed by the university via the research and service activities of UNLV faculty and staff.
Among the topics to be discussed during the first hour of the Nov. 3 forum are gerontological applications of the arts, music therapy, uses of the computer for the new "hardwired" student of the 21st century, water resource management, and developing natural ventilation systems.
Also scheduled for the first hour is "Attracting an Industry: The Department of Film and the Professional Practice Program."
All of the topics being discussed during the forum are related to programs offered by UNLV's College of Fine Arts.
At 4 p.m. Louis Castle, founder of Westwood Studios, will moderate a panel discussion during which audience members and panelists will be able to suggest new partnerships and collaborative activities that the arts could be involved in in the future. Westwood Studios is one of the major companies in the business of video game creation and development. Castle is a former UNLV student.
A reception will follow the panel discussion.
