Ecotourism policies in the South Pacific will be the focus of the final presentation of the spring 1999 University Forum lecture series.
UNLV political science professor Steven Parker will present "Ecotourism in the South Pacific: Above and Below the Water in Papua New Guinea and on Australia's Great Barrier Reef" at 7:30 p.m. May 3 in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History.
Parker's lecture is based on the research he conducted during his 1998 sabbatical field work in Papua New Guinea and Australia. Using slides and video from his work there, Parker will discuss how tourism can be used as a conservation strategy to help preserve such magnificent natural resources such as Australia's Great Barrier Reef.
All University Forum lectures are free and open to the public.
The University Forum lecture series is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and is underwritten by the UNLV Foundation. For additional information on the series, call 895-3401.
