UNLV President David B. Ashley announced today that William G. Boldt, Ed.D., has been selected as UNLV vice president for advancement, effective September 10, 2007.
Dr. Boldt currently serves as vice chancellor for university advancement at the University of California, Riverside (UCR), where he leads the development, alumni and constituent relations, event management and protocol, government and community relations, and strategic communications units. During his three-year tenure at UCR, Boldt has been instrumental in increasing private fundraising from $11.6 million in 2003-04 to $40.1 million in 2005-06, including adding 15 new endowed professorships funded solely through private donors. Boldt previously developed comprehensive advancement programs at Cornell University and California Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo. At Cornell University, Boldt led the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences campaign contributing significantly to the university's $1.5 billion overall campaign. While at Cal Poly, he led the largest campaign in the history of the California State University system, which helped increase the university's endowment from $10 million in 1993 to almost $125 million in 2004.
"Bill Boldt is an outstanding individual in the field of advancement and a truly superb choice to integrate our development, alumni relations, government relations, and
communications efforts," said UNLV President David Ashley. "With his strong track record of success developing and overseeing comprehensive fundraising campaigns, I expect he will have an immediate and substantial impact in successfully completing our current capital campaign."
The vice president for advancement is the evolution of two previous UNLV positions: the vice president for development (currently vacant) and the vice president for university and community relations (Fred Albrecht will retire later this year). Boldt will serve on the president's cabinet and as the senior executive in charge of all external relationships.
"I am honored to join President Ashley, the Foundation Board of Trustees, and the entire UNLV team in ushering in a new era of advancement on the campus," Boldt says. "I am excited by the outstanding opportunity UNLV provides to build upon a strong foundation of community support and fundraising to create an integrated and comprehensive approach to advancement."
Boldt earned a B.S. in community service and public affairs, an M.S. in health and human performance, and an Ed.D. in administration of higher education, all from the University of Oregon. He has more than 30-years' experience in higher education as a professor, department chair, assistant dean, vice president and vice chancellor.
Boldt's appointment further solidifies the new senior-leadership team at UNLV. Executive Vice President and Provost Neal Smatresk assumed his duties this month, and several new vice presidents and deans are scheduled to begin work over the summer. The lone vacant vice president position at UNLV, the vice president for research and graduate studies, is expected to be filled in the next few weeks.
