UNLV President David Ashley announced today the appointment of Andrew Hale Feinstein, Ph.D., as senior advisor to the president, effective June 1, 2007. Feinstein will serve on the president's cabinet and provide counsel on faculty perspectives related to key issues and initiatives.
"Andy Feinstein is an ideal addition to our leadership team," said UNLV President David Ashley. "His wide-ranging experience and many contributions as a faculty member and associate dean, along with his ability to provide insightful evaluations and observations, will bring a valuable perspective to our discussions."
"Ever since I was a student at UNLV, it has been my ambition to take an active role in the university community," said Feinstein. "I am thrilled by this new opportunity."
Feinstein earned bachelor's and master's degrees in hotel administration from UNLV and a doctorate in man-environment relations from The Pennsylvania State University. He returned to UNLV as a faculty member in 1999, teaching a number of undergraduate and graduate courses in food and beverage management, and focusing his research on simulation modeling, instructional system assessment and philosophy of science. Feinstein advanced to serve as chair of the food and beverage management department in 2004 and associate dean in 2006. Additionally, he serves as a research consultant for the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation and has written several internationally recognized textbooks.
Feinstein's appointment is the latest in a series of senior leadership announcements at UNLV: Executive Vice President and Provost Neal Smatresk will officially begin his duties on June 1, 2007; a new vice president of diversity and inclusion was announced recently and incoming vice presidents of advancement and research/graduate studies are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
