The Marjorie Barrick Museum will host "Greetings from Nada Motel," an exhibition highlighting the work of artists who rented motel rooms in downtown Reno last summer and turned them into eclectic displays of their work.
"Greetings from Nada Motel" - a follow-up to last year's "Selections From Dada Motel" at the Barrick Museum - represents the work of 23 artists in media ranging from photography and animation to digital and video displays.
This do-it-yourself artists' movement began in 2007 when six artists joined forces in Reno, not so much to be radical-as the artists from their Dada namesake would have had it-but simply to create an opportunity to exhibit their work and to offer the same to others. The artist/organizers worked with the management of historic Hotel El Cortez in downtown Reno and artists flocked to the event to rent their own rooms and open their doors to the public. There is no selection committee or jury deciding which artists will fill motel rooms, just a first come, first served showcase of eclectic juxtapositions.
