The Tourism and convention administration department in UNLV's Harrah College of Hotel Administration has named Joseph P. Delaney it's 1999 Industry Leader of the Year.
Delaney taught hotel entertainment courses in the convention administration department and in the Hotel College for 26 years. He influenced the creation of the entertainment and event management concentration in the department.
After a successful career in the recording industry, Joe moved to Las Vegas in 1962 and started as a columnist at the Las Vegas Sun and as a local television and radio personality. He also produced and directed many events, including television shows, telethons, and other charity events. He is still active producing Mariachi Festivals.
A scholarship fund has been set up in Delaney's name for students studying entertainment. Anyone wishing to donate can contact department chair Patti Shock at 895-0875.
