UNLV has hired an administrator from Ohio University as its new dean of enrollment management, according to President Carol C. Harter.
Juanita P. Fain, associate vice president for administration at Ohio University at Athens, will assume the newly created UNLV post on or about July 1. She will report to Harter and will be responsible for the admissions, registrar, and retention functions of the university.
"We are fortunate to have a person of Dr. Fain's caliber joining us in the important position of dean of enrollment management," Harter said. "Dr. Fain and I were colleagues at Ohio University, so I know first-hand what a wonderful person and professional she is.
"Our comprehensive planning process has identified several goals that speak directly to student recruitment and retention, as well as to an increased student focus throughout the university. Dr. Fain will have a leadership role in helping us reach those goals."
Fain, who received a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Ohio University in 1992, has held administrative positions at the university since 1980, when she became director of student financial aid and scholarships. She also served as assistant vice president for administration. She served as assistant director of student financial aid at the University of Tennessee (1976-80) and as a psychology instructor at Knoxville Business College in Knoxville, Tenn. (1977-78).
"I am very excited and honored to join the UNLV community as it rises to its next level of excellence," Fain said. "The position of dean of enrollment management provides many opportunities to develop and enhance student recruitment and retention initiatives."
Observing that a comprehensive enrollment management plan must effectively involve the entire campus, Fain said, "I am very impressed with the university's qualitative strength in its people and programs. This, along with a dynamic and progressive campus, will make marketing the institution an enjoyable and rewarding proposition."
Among her many honors and awards, Fain received the Ohio University Outstanding Administrator Award in 1986 and a University of Tennessee Outstanding Black Faculty and Staff Award in 1979-80.
Fain has broad experience in enrollment management and student financial aid, as well as in strategic planning and program development. She has led numerous workshops and seminars and has been a frequent presenter and keynote speaker.
