UNLV's Programs for Older Students is co-sponsoring a lecture by CSI actors David Berman (who plays CSI Assistant Coroner David Phillips) and Jon Wellner (who plays CSI Toxicologist Henry Andrews) in a two-hour forum in room 109 of UNLV's Flora Dungan Humanities Building on August 5, from noon to 2 p.m. The program is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Reservations must be made by calling UNLV's Division of Educational Outreach at 895-3394.
Berman and Wellner will discuss their unique experiences as actors and as researchers for the series and how CBS Television attempts to make the show as realistic as possible for an entertaining TV series.
The CSI forum is cosponsored by Friends of Henderson CSI, an organization formed to fund, build, and equip a real world forensic science center in Henderson to serve Southern Nevada law enforcement. Friends of Henderson CSI and UNLV's Programs for Older Students were brought together through the efforts of Henderson Police Criminalistics Administrator Rick Workman, one of numerous technical advisors to the television series.
Workman, a former crime scene investigator with both the Las Vegas Metropolitan and Henderson police departments, has been teaching for UNLV in Educational Outreach program for several years, beginning with a class on crime scene investigation for fiction writers that predates the CSI series. Since 2003, he has regularly presented on the science of crime scene investigation and techniques such as finger printing for UNLV Elderhostel programs. Elderhostel is an educational travel organization for people 55 and over.
