More than 3,400 students are eligible to participate in UNLV's graduation ceremonies throughout the day May 11 on the university campus.
The campus-wide University Convocation, scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center, will be followed by 11 diploma-presentation ceremonies set for times throughout the same day in various campus locations.
At the campus-wide ceremony doctoral candidates will be the only students to receive individual recognition. Students receiving bachelor's or master's degrees will be recognized at the diploma-presentation ceremonies hosted by the individual colleges.
Also at the University Convocation, the recipients of honorary doctorates and Distinguished Nevadan Awards will be recognized. The very first President's Medal will be awarded to former UNLV Interim President Kenny C. Guinn for his service to UNLV during 1994-95.
Receiving honorary doctorates this year are Clark County School District Superintendent Brian Cram and author Robert Laxalt.
Receiving the Distinguished Nevadan Award this year are Christina Hixson, trustee of the Lied Foundation Trust; William Bennett, the co-founder and former chairman of the board of Circus Circus Enterprises; the late Grant Sawyer, former Nevada governor and founder of Nevada's largest law firm (posthumously); and the late James Cashman III, former president of Cashman Equipment Co. (posthumously).
All of the ceremonies are open to the public, though seating may be limited at some of the diploma-presentation ceremonies.
