The UNLV Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost announced today that Christopher Hudgins, chair of the UNLV English department, will serve as the interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts, effective June 1.
A renowned scholar of 19th and 20th century British and American drama, Hudgins has been a member of the UNLV faculty since 1976. During his tenure, Hudgins has chaired the English department twice (1984-1993 and 2004-present) and served on various campuswide committees, including the undergraduate curriculum, graduate studies and the research resources committees, among others. Hudgins has received numerous honors for his work, including the Governor's Award for Service to the Humanities, and the Donald Schmiedel Award for Service to the University and Community. Hudgins received both his master's and doctoral degree in English from Emory University.
The College of Liberal Arts offers students a well-rounded education in the humanities and social sciences. With more than 140 faculty members and degrees offered in 19 disciplines, the college seeks to foster intellectual development and growth of students.
