For children who have difficulty attending school or remaining in class for an entire day, help is available at UNLV.
The Child School Refusal and Anxiety Disorders Clinic provides assessment and treatment for youngsters ages 5 through 15 who are facing such problems. Often these difficulties are the result of specific fears, general anxiety, social anxiety, separation problems, attention-seeking problems, or family problems.
Fees are based on each family's ability to pay. Clinic services are available from Sept. through the end of December.
Parents are encouraged to call Christopher Kearney, associate professor of clinical child psychology, at 895-0183 for information or to schedule an assessment.
The assessment procedure consists of interviews and questionnaires and usually lasts on~ to two hours. Treatment options will be discussed after an initial evaluation of all information.
