Time management experts and motivational speakers Stephen R. Covey and Hyrum W. Smith will be among the keynote speakers when more than 500 education professionals gather in Las Vegas in December for the District VII regional conference of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. The conference is scheduled Dec. 6-9 in the conference facilities of the Riviera Hotel.
CASE is the largest nonprofit education association. Its members include more than 2,900 colleges, universities, independent elementary and secondary schools, educational associates, and suppliers and consultants in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and 25 other countries. Individuals involved in CASE primarily work in the institutional advancement field, which includes fund raising, alumni relations, communications, government relations, and advancement services.
Most of the people attending the conference will be from the District VII region, which includes Nevada, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, and Utah.
"The Las Vegas conference will provide attendees with the opportunity to discuss many critical issues facing education in the United States as we approach the turn of the century," said George H. Bowie, assistant advancement vice president for Brigham Young University and chair of the conference.
Les Raschko, arrangements chair for the conference and UNLV's director of publications and reprographics, said, "As the host university for the conference, UNLV and its advancement staff have worked closely with the Riviera Hotel in scheduling more than 70 events during the four-day period.
"Not only has the program been a draw, but Las Vegas certainly has been a key in attracting more than 500 members. Both the hotel and the LVCVA have been extremely helpful," Raschko said.
On Dec. 8, Smith, chairman of the board of Franklin Covey Co., will deliver one of the keynote addresses. Smith, author of "The 10 Natural Laws of Successful Time and Life Management" and other books, also is a motivational speaker.
Smith's Franklin Day Planner system is used by more than 4 million people worldwide. The Franklin Covey Co., which resulted from the recent merger with the Covey Leadership Center, serves an international clientele of 750,000, including 82 of the Fortune 100 and more than two-thirds of the Fortune 500 companies.
Covey, the author of "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People," will speak Dec. 9. He has taught leadership principles and management skills for more than 25 years to leaders in business, government, and education. He is the founder of the Covey Leadership Center, which recently merged with Franklin Quest.
The Dec. 7 keynote address will be delivered by Donald D. Snyder, president of the UNLV Foundation and president of Boyd Gaming Corporation.
